Embracing Tourist Status in Seattle
In the world of travel, we often see articles, books and guides urging us to stay away from "tourist traps" and toward the lesser-known attractions and activities. Yet, as we pondered how to spend one day in Seattle this summer, we made the choice to hit up some of the highlights.
Yes, we only had one day and we missed out on a lot of hole-in-the-wall spots, but I happen to think it's more fun to have fun than to worry about all of that. So, that's what we did!
We opted to spend the morning at Seattle's Museum of Flight, which—though it sounds a bit nerdy—was actually pretty incredible. The museum offers a ton of information about the history of flight and you can even tour an Air Force One and Concorde, which are both located on museum grounds.
After we left the museum, we headed down to Pike Place Market where we shopped around for a bit. Talk about sensory overload! I've been there before, but I'm always amazed by how busy it seems to be—all day, every day.
We had planned to ride the Great Wheel, but decided against it since the day was pretty dreary. Luckily, the colors of the market kept us in good spirits!
After grabbing dinner in the city, we hopped back on the ferry to Kingston where we were staying. Though we'll probably explore the many other sides of Seattle during our next visit, playing tourist was the perfect way to spend the twelve hours we had available.
